Gender Equality and the Environment

Women and men interact with their physical environment and natural resources in different ways. However, across the world, women are still discriminated against when it comes to decision-making and natural resource management. In some countries women have no or few rights to access land, for example, which limits their decision-making abilities and their capacity in maintaining welfare and well-being within the household and the community. Such gender-based inequalities hamper the abilities of societies to achieve sustainable development.

Below are some articles written by 4 students from the Paris-based “Institut d’Etudes Politiques” for the month of December 2010. Each month until June 2011, new articles will be uploaded by the students on a different theme.

Wikigender University

Wikigender has established a scheme with Paris-based universities that engages students in adding articles, doing outreach and benefitting from the networking opportunities provided by Wikigender. The program, called “ ”, is in the process of being expanded to universities around the world, in developing and developed countries alike.
