The OECD Development Centre organised a series of policy dialogues throughout 2021 to engage with both grassroots organisations and policy makers on “From Data to Policy Action: Tackling Gender-Based Discrimination in Social Institutions” in East, Southern and West Africa.
The events were organised in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the OECD’s Sahel and West Africa Club Secretariat (SWAC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and led to the creation of three “Roadmaps for Action”.
Discussions during the policy dialogues fed into the SIGI 2021 Regional Report for Africa and three sub-regional Policy Highlights for each sub-region, accessible here below. In addition, three sub-regional Roadmaps for Action were developed with all attendees to the policy dialogues:

The OECD Development Centre, in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, invites you to a virtual high-level policy dialogue on gender equality in Southern Africa on 15 September 2021 at 2:00 PM South Africa Time for an interactive policy discussion.
Building on the previous two workshops organised on 26 May and 2 June, gathering grassroots organisations and policy makers, respectively, the high-level policy dialogue will present a roadmap based on the previously identified policy options and aim to reach a consensus for implementing it in view of addressing gender-based discrimination in social institutions and accelerating progress on gender equality in the region.
This policy dialogue is part of a series of virtual policy dialogues events in Africa within the OECD Development Centre project, “From data to policy action: addressing social institutions governing women’s and men’s behaviour to enhance gender equality in Africa”, supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation.

Promundo and Oxfam’s #HowICare Campaign is an opportunity for a wide variety of voices to demand, together, a transformation of the gendered dynamics of unpaid care work. In particular, the campaign aims to “aims to shed a light on the realities, difficulties, and disparities of providing care – specifically in caring for children, in order to advocate for additional support for caregivers – including the parents and care workers who are most impacted – during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.”

]]>M. Mirzakhani was born on May 12 in 1977 in Theran, earned a PhD from Harvard University in 2004 and later became a professor of mathematics at Stanford University. In 2014, Mirzakhani was the first women and first Iranian to receive the Fields Medal, the most prestigious award in mathematics.
